In the first chapter of my e-book I talked about the importance of focusing your message. I found this such a difficult concept to get my head around when I began trying to market myself as a therapist. I really thought: “It’s hard enough to get clients as it is! Why limit myself?”
Well there are 4 main benefits to this approach:
- It’s makes your marketing EASIER
- It’s makes it EASIER for your clients to FIND YOU.
- You’re more likely to work with people you like.
- You can make a BIG first impression with LESS effort
So how do you go about streamlining your message? Where do you even start? The first step is to choose a target audience.
What does this mean?
Your target audience should be a group of people that you WANT to work with and who you can genuinely help with your product or service.
Your target audience should be a group of people that you WANT to work with and who you can genuinely help with your product or service.
A great way to choose your target audience is to use your own life experience as a source of inspiration. What problems have you overcome? What areas of health care really interest you?
To use myself as example, I chose to specialise in relationship coaching because I had experienced an amazing shift in my own relationships, and I was passionate about sharing what I had learned with other people. My father suffers from Parkinsons, so I might choose to specialise in that and learn more about how to help sufferers of this illness. In fact one of my old Tai-Chi teachers set up a weekly class just for Parkinsons sufferers and their carers.
This is a great example of the power of this technique. She simply had to mention it to the parkinsons disease society, a charity which has monthly meetings and an active community, offered some taster sessions and her classes became jammed full!
Why not start now and jot down some ideas for YOUR target audience. Already have a target audience? How can you tighten up your message so you speak even more directly to the NEEDS of your audience …
