Do you have a clear picture of who your clients are? Is it everyone and anyone? Are you sure you really want to work with absolutely anyone? I don’t know about you, but I have worked with some people I would rather not. Booking someone in for an appointment and then dreading the day, and hoping they would cancel.
These are NOT your ideal clients. I have had it with my therapy practice and my web design business. There are some people that are a DREAM to work with and some people who are simply not a good fit for YOU.
So how do you even go about choosing your ideal client? How do you know if someone is a good fit? Well sometimes you can’t know in advance and that’s OK. Sometimes you need to be open too. Try out some options before you REALLY get a sense of who a good fit for you really is. Here are some starting pointers that might help:
- What are your hobbies?
- What subjects interest you?
- What are you passionate about?
- If you didn’t have to work to earn money, how would you spend your time?
- What do other people tell you you are good at?
- What do YOU think you are good at?
- What life challenges have you had to overcome?
- What illnesses have you overcome or still suffer with?
- What about your family and friends?
Why all the questions about YOU? Well knowing yourself is the best place to start figuring out who is a good fit for you. Brainstorm and see what comes up in answer to these questions.
At this point the most important part is getting ideas down on paper. Don’t worry about getting it right or not.
Are you getting any ideas yet about who your target audience might be? Lets leave it there for now, and just let those answers flow over the next few days.
MOST important… Don’t let not knowing hold you back… sometimes just by trying something you learn really fast what works for YOU and what doesn’t. Just pay attention to your inner signals and GO FOR IT!
